Fashion Inspiration, Shoreditch London Style

In fashion, experimentation is part of the style process. Creative expression through fashion is an iteration of shapes, colors and textures conveying a mood. At times that mood can be chaotic and loud or soft and graceful. Regardless, when you step outside your comfort zone, the real magic begins but it requires a certain level of risk-taking and quirkiness that not everyone is comfortable with. However, the key to developing your personal style is through experimentation, oftentimes with the unfamiliar. My advice, go outside your comfort zone. With this in mind, I took a different approach from my usual style routine.

I decided to craft an edgy, grunge look for this particular post by using the art scene of Shoreditch London as inspiration. Since I couldn’t just hop on a plane to Shoreditch London with its cutting-edge grunge style and creativity, I decided to bring it locally with the help of my friend Rebecca, a London native. It’s been more than five years since my last visit to London so a trip there is in order.

To pull a look like this together, we started with a graphic tee shirt (this particular shirt Rebecca is wearing I bought at an H&M in London on my last visit but there are some other options I’ve linked below that will work just as well). Next, add a floral skirt, which has a bit of an artsy feel and hits just at the knee, paired with black tights and ankle boots. The leather jacket (or faux leather, if you’re into that) adds an edgy touch and works well for a going out on the town outfit, not to be mistaken with a going to the office outfit. As for accessories, a statement necklace, drop earrings and wrap bracelet adds bohemian flair.
